RecordCast free video recording tool

Are you looking for an easy way to make and edit video lessons? RecordCast is a new and free online screen recorder, which can help you record a video from the screen for up to 30 minutes and edit the screencast at will. In addition to recording your computer screen, RecordCast allows you to include a webcam of yourself, which is a best practice when creating video lessons.

Key features:

  • No registration, no login, no install required
  • Make the screen capture of the whole screen, application windows, or browser tab as you need
  • Webcam recording is optional
  • Saves locally, on your hard disk in WebM format
  • Customize your screencast by adding text, music in the built-in video editor
  • Pricing: 100% free

The tools are very easy to learn and use. The only issue seems to be that you need to start at the home page to access the “screen + webcam” recording feature, at least in this initial version.

Tips for sharing lessons on YouTube

Many teachers use YouTube videos in their classrooms, and also upload their own videos to YouTube. Here are two features that are helpful when sharing lessons. Start by logging into your YouTube account:

Make your videos unlisted

Log into your YouTube account and click the Manage Videos button to display your videos. In the row containing the video you want to make unlisted, click the icon in the Visibility column, select Unlisted, and click Save.

Click on the Visibility column to make videos unlisted. Only people with the URL will be able to see the video.

Disable comments

To disable comments on a single video, view the videos as described above, then select the Edit Details icon.

Click the pencil icon to access controls to comments.

Scroll down to the bottom of the window and click SHOW MORE to see more options. In the Comments and Ratings section, select Disable Comments from the drop-down menu.

To prevent people from commenting on your video, select Disable Comments in the Video details window.
